Bookmark and tracking lost

Jan 15, 2014

Hi everybody,

I'd like to receive a confirm about this issue:

We have created an Storyline SCORM LMS course with the possibility to resume from the last point seen, with this settings:

If a user access againto the course, He correctly see the message:

"Would you like to resume where you left off?"

But if the user decide to non resume but decide to start again from the beginning of the course, all the first's access tracking data will be cancelled! This is an odd situation because, we think that, all the traking data shouldn't be touched.

Besides not allow the user to choose whether to resume, is there any options that we can set in Storyline to avoid this situation?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Fabio,

As Phil mentions if they choose not to resume and haven't finished the course, they'll be brought back to the beginning. If on the other hand, they've completed the course, most learning management systems (LMSs) consider a course to be in review mode after the tracking requirement has been met. In review mode, resume data is no longer sent to the LMS, which prevents learners from accidentally changing their course status from complete back to incomplete. You can change that behavior as described here, although its not recommended.

Hello, is there a configuration setting in articulate that changes this odd behavior?  That means, if I say 'NO' to not resume, can I still navigate any where in the course without the course being reset (not force to start over again)?

Or is it the LMS?  Can the LMS be set to allow tracking data to resume in review mode after the course has been completed? That is without changing the course status from Complete to Incomplete?

Hi Nghi!

If a learner selects No when prompted to resume, the course will start completely fresh, and all the course data will be reset. You may want to change the resume behavior to "Always Resume" and try adding a Course Menu so the learner can easily navigate back to any slide in the course.

And as Ashley mentioned, most LMSs consider a course to be in review mode after the tracking requirement has been met. What LMS are you using? Perhaps others in the community who have experience with your LMS can weigh in here!
