Branching Conditions

Apr 21, 2014

We'd like to create a presentation with branches, but without having the viewer click a button to go down that branch.  We link presentations to our website where folks have already signed in, and would like to see if there's anyway that a cookie or something could be passed on so that when we get to a branching point, we could have an IF/THEN that would take them in the right direction.  I can't find a way in the program itself to introduce that kind of variable.  Has anyone else tried to do this before?  Thanks for your help.

You could certainly use JavaScript from with Storyline to write/read a cookie (proving that cookies are no blocked on the user's machine). I'm just not sure what type of information you want to store in the cookie. A branching decision needs to be based  'on something'. If it's not a user interaction (e.g. a button click or similar) then what is used to decide on a branching path? Maybe you can provide some more info on what exactly you are trying to do.

Michael...

We want to eliminate the interaction by the user.  When the user logs in to our website before selecting the presentation they want to watch, we will already know what that variable will be - in this instance, it's whether they are a coach or a referee.  We want to make it be a seamless experience for the viewer.  That's what we're hopeful of - finding a way to eliminate that one step that someone could screw up.

Thanks for your input.  We would welcome any additional ideas you or anyone else has.
