Branching Scenario With Different Order
Dec 03, 2014
Hi Everyone,
I'm new with SCORM and articulate Storyline and currently try to create a branching scenario with different order.
Here is the situation.
- There are 3 characters and 7 Topic
- Learner can pick 1 from 3 characters and can change the name
- After that they will start to learn
- Different learner maybe experience different topic order and it is generate randomly. Example :
- Learner 1: Topic order 1, 2 , 3 , 4, 5, 6, 7
- Learner 2 : Topic order 2, 5, 6, 4, 3, 7, 1
- Although they experience different order of branching scenario, they will end up with similar ending slide
Questions :
- Is it possible to create this scenario with Storyline 2?
- Is it possibe to track the topic order from each learner?
Ps. We're not buying it yet.

Hi Zaki,
One of the cool things I often hear people share in the forums, is that with Storyline you can do pretty much anything you can think of, and there is often more than one way to do so.
For example, here's a set up on how to choose a character to use throughout a course.
As far as randomizing the topics, my thought is if you were able to place these slides into a question bank. You can lock particular slides together to keep topical elements together but also set it to draw them randomly so each user would see things in a different order.
Tracking the order in which the user sees the items may be a bit more difficult, so I'll defer to the community on how they may work with that one, although I suspect it's going to involve tracking variables.
Hello Zaki, and welcome to the community!
You should be able to set something like this up. What you would do is create your 7 topics on slides. Then you can duplicate them into new scenes and rearrange the order. You can use a trigger to jump to a certain scene based on which character they click. You can then add a trigger to the last slide in each scene to jump to a final end slide. I am not sure if having the slides show in a random order is possible, though you may be able to achieve this using a question bank.
Have you downloaded the trial of Storyline to try? If so you can check out the set up in the attached file.
As far as tracking, I assume you will be using an LMS. Storyline content can track based on the number of slides viewed, or by a results slide after a quiz.
Hope this helps!
Hi Ashley
Thanks for your solution. Involve tracking variables is one feature we really need.
and Emily,
Thanks for you reply. Unfortunately we haven't trying yet. We dont have any computer that using windows. I guess we should prepare it before buying storyline.
Thanks Again.
Hi Zaki,
You can currently keep track of variables and display them to your users as that tutorial sets up, but they are not automatically reported to your LMS. There is a method here to report text variables to an LMS though, and if there are other features you'd like to see implemented in future versions of Storyline you're welcome to share your thoughts with our development team in the form of a feature request.
Hi Ashley & Emily,
Let say i create 7 topics on slide then duplicate them into new scenes and rearrange the order. and Let say i duplicate twice. So we have have 3 Scene. Each scene has 7 topics with different order.
In each topic i need to create 3 challenges. Only 1 challenge will appear, and it generated randomly.
Please check attachment.
We need the output on SCORM.
Questions :
1.Is it possible to create this scenario?
2. How to handle challenge option?
3. Using SCORM, We need to track
4. It is possible to create animated slide such us http://www.aovideo.ch/~aoelearn/aot_launch/aot_classifiation/index.swf
Thanks
