Bug in Text Highlight Color? Getting Vertical Lines.

Mar 15, 2018

Whenever I use a highlight color on my text -- something I prefer to do to give text a little extra umph -- I get little vertical striations between certain characters. See screenshot below.

Vertical lines in highlighted text

At first I thought it was just a rendering error in my browser, but I've now been seeing it pretty consistently. I've also tested using a different font, Arial, and saw the exact same thing. Please note that then I PREVIEW my content, everything looks perfect in Storyline. It is when I publish it to Articulate 360, specifically, that I am seeing these striations.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a workaround? I've tried adjusting the kerning, but no luck there either.

Hi Ephraim. I managed to reproduce your problem. This might be a rendering issue from Storyline.

Here is a workaround you can try.

  1. Place the highlighted text in a separate text box.
  2. Set the text highlight color to No Color.
  3. Right click on the text box and select format shape.
  4. In the Fill tab, select Solid Fill and choose the color you want. Keep the transparency to 0%.
  5. In the Text Box tab (still inside the format shape screen), set all internal margins to 0px. This should give you the same boundary as the actual text.

Here is a sample image of a published content on Articulate 360. The one at the top is the usual highlight. The one at the bottom is the workaround. Let me know if it works for you. Cheers!
