Bug When Tracking a Course by Slides Viewed

Mar 13, 2013

I'm experiencing an issue with publishing a Storyline course to my SumTotal LMS when I want to track and report the course based on the number of slides viewed (versus a quiz result).  Due to branching, I have set the minimum number of slides viewed to be fewer than the total number of slides (I've tried even as low as 3 out of 30ish).

Expected Behavior:

Learner progresses uninterrupted through the course.  Upon course exit, the learner is marked as completed as long as he or she has met the minimum slides viewed requirement.

Actual Behavior:

As soon as the learner completes the minimum slides viewed, he or she gets a pop-up saying that "You've successfully completed this course.  Click OK to close."  And it promptly boots them out of the course.

I'm thinking this might be more of an issue with SumTotal than Articulate, since the pop-up seems to come from the LMS.  Has anyone else experienced this issue, or have any suggestions?

Hey Sara

The best way to determine whether it's an LMS or Articulate issue, is to try testing your course in SCORM Cloud. If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team. The articles here and here may also help clear up common LMS issues.

Thanks, Sara!

Good Afternoon, Sara.

Although this sounds like an LMS Issue at first glance, the way to know for certain is to test your content at SCORM Cloud, which is an industry-standard platform for testing SCORM content.

If you can reproduce the problem at SCORM Cloud, it could be a Storyline problem, and you can send us your .story project file via a Support Case.  If the problem is not reproducible at SCORM Cloud, it's probably best to contact SumTotal for help.

Please let us know if you need anything else.  Thanks!
