I've just been trying to put a button in a state as Phil described in this thread and I can't seem to get it to work. I made the button and assigned a trigger then cut and pasted it into a state of a different object. Even though the hand cursor appears and I can click the button, the action assigned to the button (change state of X) doesn't work.
When editing a state, I don't see the option to insert a button (it's greyed out) which leads me to believe that it may not work as Phil initially described. Additionally, when I copy and paste the button into the state I'm editing, I'm unable to click on the "Add trigger" within the trigger panel, so it seems to not be functionality you can add to a state, but you're welcome to submit a feature request.
