I have buttons that have no trigger attached (probably should have made them into a SS) but is there any way to change the mouse setting if I'm not asking the user to click? I don't want to confuse them.
If you have a button, but no trigger or state associated with it - what would you like to change? I am not fully understanding the set up you've described. Feel free to share a screenshot or a copy of the .story file if that'll help clarify.

Easily.
Select the button then edit the states. Remove any state you don't want. That should take away all the differnt visuals that come from clicking.

did you delete the standard states that come with buttons?
