Buttons and hotspots
Jun 26, 2013
I have a parent page with 4 hotspots. I have created a layer for each picture under the hotspot that includes a button with a checkbox showing that the scenario has been visited.
Two of the buttons (checkboxes) appear correctly, which is AFTER the hotspot has been selected and the corresponding page has been completed. Two of the buttons appear briefly WHEN the hotspot is being selected and AFTER the hotspot has been selected.
The layers for all buttons, graphics and hotspots are the same. The timeline for all buttons, graphics and hotspots are the same. Can anybody help?
Thanks!

Hi Ellen!
Welcome to the community! Sounds like this is an issue we can help you resolve... is there any way you can upload your .story file here so I can have a look at it? Finding a solution goes a lot quicker when we can look at the file =)
I've tried attaching the file, but it doesn't show in this thread as an attachment?. How do I know if it's attached or not?
I guess once I post, I can see the attachment. Sorry!
Hi Ellen!
Your file did attach, but is there any way you can you share the .story file (development file) ? =)
Yes, here it is. The top two graphics on the parent page work fine. The bottom two graphics show the checkmark box when you click the hotspot.
I think I've got a fix, but it still doesn't explain why those 2 layers don't work the same as the other graphic layers on the top.
The fix: I moved the checkbox done to .5 seconds on the timeline for both of the bottom graphics. Now, the checkmark doesn't appear until the learner has visited the child page.
Any explanation?
Thanks!
Hi Ellen,
If I'm understanding correctly, you would like the user to click on the hot spot, visited the associated slide, and then when they return to the "Parent Page" a checkmark would appear next to the scenario they've already completed.
If this is what you are trying to achieve, you'll need to use variables. This is how you can track a user across multiple slides; in this case variables would be used to tell the checkmark to appear when a certain slide has been visited.
If this is indeed what you are trying to accomplish let me know, and I can help you achieve a solution for this in your .story file.
Nicole, This sounds like what I am trying to do in one of my courses. ( I sent you an email message pertaining to slides/layers/variables) I'd love to be able to add to this discussion - hopefully my solution!
I think I figured out a way to accomplish what I wanted! (It seems like I was overcomplicating the issue...) I ended up simply using states and triggers on and between the slides. Feel free to view and comment - I welcome the feedback.
