Buttons and web objects

First, I'm loving the Storyline product! I'm filled with questions as I learn the ins-and-outs...
Can a button be used to trigger an inserted web object? If so, would I simply hide the web object place holder behind the button?
Or, is what I'm trying to accomplish the same thing as the Jump to URL/File trigger?
If I use the Jump to URL/File trigger and the user clicks the button, will the URL/file open in a new browser window?
As always, thanks so much for the support.

You could add the web object to a layer and use a trigger on a button to open that layer
Hi Jason,
Happy that you love Storyline I do too...
Depending on what the object is, you can use different trigger.
If you decide to use "Jump to URL/File", to the right of the URL/File field, you have two icons and the second one allows you to set the browser options. You will find there all you need to display the web object in accordance with your needs.
Hope it helps and have a nice day!

Ahh, excellent. Thanks for pointing out the browser control option for the "Jump to URL/File" trigger, Annie. This may be my best option.
I'm curious to also learn more about Phil's suggestion also...
Phil, if I add the web object to a second layer, what trigger would I use to get the user back to the main slide once they're done exploring the web object in a separate browser window?
I have two buttons (the old way and the new way), each taking them to a new layer once clicked, but I'm a bit stuck on how to get them back after clicking one, in order for them to click the next button.
You could add a button to hide layer, I like to copy the open layer button and paste it on the layer then change the trigger to hide layer. This way it acts like a toggle open/close
Hi, I'm doing what Phil said, open the web object on a layer with a button to hide the layer, but when i do that, the web object won't hide, still remains on scene.
And in flash, the layer opens when the web object does not load.
Hi Juanjo,
Are you saying you can close the layer, but the web object that you've inserted into the layer still appears? Are you able to share your .story file here for us to take a look at? If you'd prefer to share privately, you're welcome to share it with us here.
Hi, Ashley... Yes, that's exactly what happens. I've send the file. Thanks!
Thanks Juanjo, it looks like John was able to replicate the issue and has reported it to our QA team for further investigation. We can't offer a timeline for a fix.
Good! Thanks Ashley!!
Does Articulate developers provide web objects or widgets with this authoring tool?
Hi Cynthia!
If you can tell me a little more about what you're looking to do and what version of Storyline you're using, I can point you in the right direction!
In the meantime, check out this article on using Web Objects in Storyline 360. I hope that gets you started!
Good morning Alyssa and thank you for responding. I am using Storyline 3 and what I am wanting to do is add an accordion style menu box to one of the slides in my e-learning project. Since the e-learning effort I am developing is text heavy, I want to display some of the content inside the accordion style menu. I was not sure if something like this has already been developed.
Hey Cynthia and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for reaching back out and sharing what you'd like to do.
Check out this accordion template and this one. If that's not what you're looking for, there are nine more examples here! These templates were created in Storyline 2, but you can upgrade them!
Just open the file with Storyline 3, then confirm that you want to upgrade it when prompted. It's that easy. 😊
Hope that helps :)
Wow, thank you Leslie this is exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate your timely response.
So happy it helped Cynthia, thanks for letting us know!
