Buttons disappear in 'pop-up boxes' in SCORM eLearning Packages

Feb 03, 2019

We recently noticed buttons/pop ups disappearing from SCORM packages when uploaded in our LMS depending on the size of the window in Google Chrome. Please see the attached images. Button 1 is how it should look with a 'Continue' button in the box. Button 2 is how it looks if the screen size is maximum/expanded, the 'continue' box completely disappears. In other examples the pop up box completely disappears until you adjust your size.

Any advice you could provide would be great. We are wondering if it is to do with the latest Google Chrome update, as we have not noticed this before now.

Thanks so much in advance!

Charles

Hi Charles,

Thanks for those images, and I'd love to know a bit more about your course design so that I can attempt testing this:

  • What version of Storyline are you using? You can check by going to the "Help" Tab -> "About Articulate Storyline".
  • If you're using Storyline 360, are you using the modern or classic player?
  • What slide size are you using? What's your overall screen resolution and browser size while viewing in Chrome?
  • Are you on update 72 of Chrome? That's the latest as of today (February 4, 2019)

If you're able to share a copy of your .story file or even a link to the course, that would speed up my testing. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here.

I’ll delete it when I’m done troubleshooting.

I'm seeing issues now with my courses published in the last couple versions of SL . I had the same issue a while back with images with glow filters appearing incorrectly in Chrome. If you resized your browser they re-adjusted and appeared properly.

Chrome released a new update which fixed the problem. But now Chrome 72 is rolled out and I'm seeing similar issues.

I'm also having Images and Buttons disappear from the stage but if I scale my browser smaller than the output Publish size they seem to reappear.

I'm publishing to the Modern Player.

Hi Ashley,

Just working on updating my SL to the newest version to see if the problem persists. But as of now all of my old Modules published over the course of the past year and a half using multiple different versions of SL are experiencing the problem in Chrome.

I will hopefully be able to upload a Module to you tomorrow.

Thanks

Updated and tested with the newest Build of 360 and still having the same problem Published in the Modern Player.

You can watch the graphics disappear as you scale the browser larger than it's Optimal Output size and reappear as you shrink it back down.

I'll publish a specific Slide from one of my files and upload. I'll mention I spent around 3 weeks working on basically this same bug a few months ago after a Chrome update and Chrome eventually updated itself out of the problem before there was a solution on Articulate's end.

Is this something you guys have started looking into yet?

I'll upload my file now. Thanks!

Hi there, David.  We are working on an issue specific to Chrome version 72 where scaling the browser window is changing the order of appearance on slide objects.  For instance, you may see an object that is supposed to overlay another object actually appear behind it.

Does that match what you're seeing?  Let me know, and we'll add this discussion to the report to be updated when we've got a fix.

Hi Denise,

Our team is still working on the fix for the issue in Chrome 72, but we've yet to see it in Firefox 65. Are you able to share a sample that we can test? That will help us confirm if it's the same issue or something else.

You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here.

I’ll delete it when I’m done troubleshooting.

Hi,

I believe I have the same issue with a project done on SL3. (buttons disappearing when the window is reaching the full size of the screen (on my second monitor).

have you forseen an update? or found a workaround we could use?
I am also using Chrome (Version 73.0.3683.86 (Build officiel) (32 bits))

Thanks so much in advance!

Elise

Hello, Elise. Welcome, and you're in the right place for help!

We released a fix for this issue in Storyline 3, Update 6. If you see this behavior on the latest update (you can find this detail by clicking on the Help tab, then About Storyline), please let us know!

Also, would you mind sharing your .story file so we can run some tests? If that works for you, you can send that Storyline file to us privately in a case here. We'll let you know what we find, and will delete it after troubleshooting.
