Buttons don't show Layer via Tablet

Jan 24, 2019

Hello there,

I came across an issue with Buttons that should trigger a layer to show. By mouse-clicking, the button triggers the layer as expected, though not by tapping on a tablet. Hiding the layer works via clicking as well as tapping a button.

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance,

Christina

Hello, Christina. Happy to investigate this behavior with you!

A few questions to start:

  • What version of Storyline are you using?
  • Did you publish the course for LMS, Web, or something else?
  • Can you tell me more about the device(s) and browser(s) you're using to test the content?
  • With your permission, I'd like to test your .story file in a similar environment to nail down the culprit. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll let you know what I find, and will delete it after troubleshooting.

Hello Katie!

I'm using Storyline 360 and tried Publishing for Web as well as LMS, also the issue arises in the preview.

I've been testing on a HP Elitebook which has a Touchscreen/Tabletmode and runs on Windows 10. It meets/exceeds all the System requirements. I've tested in Internet Explorer as well as Firefox (latest versions). As I mentioned, the other Buttons work just fine. A second Problem - which might be connected to this one - is about a button that jumps to a slide of different Scene. It's excactly the same Thing, works by click, not by touch (I've created a separate discussion for that though).

I'll be uploading my file (well, the troublesome part) in a Little bit.

Thank's a lot.

Hi there, Christina!  It's possible that this inconsistency is caused by running a desktop/laptop operating system (Windows) in tablet mode.  What browser is being used to launch the course?

We've had similar questions about using touchscreen laptops.  Not all touchscreen gestures are supported in the browsers on those computers, so we advise navigating with the mouse. Our requirements for mobile browsing (tablet mode) are:

  • Safari in Apple iOS 10 or later,
  • Google Chrome in Apple iOS 10 or later
  • Google Chrome in Android OS 4.4 or later

Touchscreen gestures should be supported in those environments.  Let me know what you think!
