I had the same issue, and the solution (creating new buttons) worked. It's quite a pain though, as I have custom states for the buttons, and have to recreate them for each new button.
Did you look at duplicating the buttons as that would duplicate their states as well? Copy/paste from different stories could sometimes cause odd behavior.
I misread the info above. Somehow I got the impression the problem was caused by duplicating buttons. It appears more like it's copying a whole slide that results in the problem.

So, I think the problem is that I copied and pasted slides from inside a story, instead of creating all new buttons for each slide.
Creating new buttons solved the issue, but it's definitely more tedious.
