Buttons not working on mobile devices

Jan 10, 2017

I am creating a course where the client wants a hamburger style menu in the top right corner.

My solution for this was to create a layer and when the button was clicked it would show the menu.  It works 100% on a desktop.  The minute I try to do it on a mobile device it wont show up.  Any Ideas?

here is a test link...

Hi Justin,
I Checked this link on my android Mobile, and yes it has some issue when trying to open menu. But after struggling for while I was able to open menu on mobile.Below is screen shot for your reference.

What I did was just zoom in before click. So I think the issue is hit area of that button, You must use a hot-spot over it which is at-least large enough to recognize finger touch. May be this will solve the issue.

Thanks Everyone....

I think we are going to go a different route...however I would like to know....

Is it possible for the standard desktop menu to open and close on the side? Right now it takes up so much room, it would be great if you could click menu and it opens.  OR is it possible to have the mobile menu show up also on a desktop?

Thanks!!

Hi Justin.  For the desktop version of your course, you can choose which player features to include, and rearrange them.  It sounds like having the Menu as a tab at the top (where it will drop down when clicked) might work better for you than as a sidebar.

We've had a lot of interest in making the responsive player design available for your users viewing their course on a desktop, too.  I'll definitely add your input for our development team on that, and we'll update you if there's a change in player features for Storyline 360!

Crystal,

Any updates on the responsive player being easily available for desktop?

Hi everybody, I just found something that might help, in case this discussion is in someway active.

It seems like buttons don't work on touch devices when the following things happen:

  • Button has a trigger to show layer
  • Layer has a trigger to close this layer if user clicks outside

In this case a button probably will NOT work on a touch screen. Don't ask me why. This might be something to look into for future articulate versions.

So sorry you're facing this issue, John. I'd love to help!

It sounds like Ed had a layer with this trigger: Hide that layer when the user clicks outside a particular object, but removing it did the trick.

If that doesn't help, would you be willing to share your .story file with us for a closer look? You can share it publicly here or send it privately by using this upload link. We'll delete after checking out the settings!
