Buttons on layers not working in Chrome version 72.0.3626.109
Feb 17, 2019
Hi Articulate,
The latest Google Chrome update (72.0.3626.109) seems to have broken all buttons on layers in Storyline.
We use buttons on layers all throughout our hundreds of courses, and now all our students who are using the most up-to-date version of Chrome cannot proceed through our Storyline scenarios.
For example, this is what our students should see when they encounter a layer with a button on it (as per Internet Explorer, Firefox, old versions of Chrome): https://i.imgur.com/U0xqIK9.jpg
But currently, this is what students using Chrome 72.0.3626.109 are seeing: https://i.imgur.com/JMsomjc.jpg
The CONTINUE button is still clickable, but it is invisible, and students are unlikely to guess what they should be interacting with. It practically stalls any student who engages with our learning material.
Is Articualte aware of this issue?
If so, is there any way to solve this issue?
Best,
Alex

This is exactly the same issue I am having with a project (my discussion is here: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/images-not-appearing-in-chrome)
Hi Alex,
Yes, it sounds like you are running into an issue we are aware of and looking into.
I will add this conversation to the report so that we can pop back in and update you when we can.
Hi Chuck,
Thanks for linking the two. As I mentioned, I'll add this conversation to the report as well.
I am having a similar issue. This was a longstanding bug with Safari that had existed for about a year. Now, it has spread to Chrome. Here's my thread about it: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/slide-layers-out-of-order-problem-in-safari-has-now-spread-to-chrome-any-insights-or-fixes
There are some workarounds, but they all involve having to republish every module. For those of us like me who have hundreds and hundreds of modules, this is a horrible nightmare.
So sorry for the frustration, Daniel. Our team is hard at work on a fix. As soon as we get this resolved, we'll let you know!
I have a similar issue. Buttons are not visible but are there and functional. The common thread is that it is happening to slides that have .mp4 video content.
Hi Paul,
We just released a new update of Storyline 360 today, and it includes a fix for the issue where some objects would disappear when viewing courses in Google Chrome 72.
Try updating Storyline, then republish the file. Let me know if you see an improvement!
Hi Alyssa,
I just updated my SL360 and republish the file, but nothing change.
Please refer to my post:

Hi Owen,
Thanks for linking to your post so that I could take a look.
You mentioned using SL3 in that post and the fix that Alyssa shared above was for SL360. A fix for SL3 should follow soon.
I'm attaching this conversation to the report so that we can update you when that is available.
Hi Leslie,
Acctually, I have both SL3 and SL360. Although I updated my SL360 after I saw Alyssa's reply, but it didn't work as normal.
Hi Owen,
I grabbed the file you shared in the other conversation and published with the latest version of SL360, but do not see the issue you originally reported.
Do you see an issue with this published output?
We are SL3 users who just tried SL360 on a free trial and the problem appears to be solved in most devices except iPads, which still experience some of these issues. Is there any further information on iPads? Also, as we still using SL3 now, it would be great to know the answer to Martin's question.
Hi Daniel,
I just replied to your similar post here, which is also the conversation that Martin's question is on.
I am having this same issue, even on courses I have republished using the latest version of Storyline. See attached video.
Hey Greg,
Thanks for including that screen recording. Where are you viewing this course?
It was loaded into our Cornerstone LMS and tested from there using Google Chrome.

Hi Greg. Thanks for confirming. I've opened a case for you with my team so we can have a closer look and make sure we resolved all instances of the previous bug. You'll get a confirmation email with an upload link. If we can have permission to test your .story file, that would be super! We'll delete it when we're done.
I'll follow along as well so I can update this discussion.
Does anyone know if this issue is impacting Storyline 2 courses as well? We are seeing similar behavior but are being told SL2 does not have the same bug. Is this correct?
Hi Jennifer,
We haven't seen any reports of this happening in Storyline 2, and we haven't been able to recreate the problem in that version. I do see your team is working with Ronaziel to test Storyline 2 content in SCORM Cloud, so I'll keep an eye on that case as it progresses.
I am experiencing the same/similar issue using SL3. Although ranked above the blue rectangle and picture objects in the timeline the button appears to be getting pushed behind these objects in these browsers.
Hi Allan,
Our team is still finalizing this fix in Storyline 3, so we'll let you know as soon as that update is available!
Thanks Ashley. There appears to be an issue with quiz responses whereby they display briefly on answer submission and then disappear leaving the user with no means of progression to the next question. See attached screen capture. Note all objects in the response layers span the full length of the timeline.
Hi again everyone,
I'm happy to share that an update to Storyline 3 is available today.
Enhanced: We added support for Google Chrome 72 and Safari 12.0.3. If objects disappear when viewing a course in these browsers, install the latest Storyline 3 update and republish your course.
Check out all the details on the latest release here.
Please let us know if you run into any issue after updating and republishing.
Any updates on this? I'm up to date in both Storyline 360 and Chrome, now v73, and this same issue is happening.
Hey Brian,
This issue should be fixed, so I'm sorry you're running into it again. We haven't seen this on our end since Chrome 73, so we would love to get a closer look at a sample of your file.
Would you be willing to share a few slides with us? If that works for you, you can upload your file privately to our support team here. We'll give it a test and let you know what we find!
I have one client seeing this with buttons over an mp4 video on a layer disappearing as soon as the video plays. We do not see it on our end but he sees it on his. He is using chrome 72.***.121. When I asked him to try it in IE it worked fine for him. I am using 360. No one else has experienced this issue and I can't replicate it, but I watched him do it on webex. Anyone else experiencing this? I am hoping he updates to Chrome 73 and it goes away.
