Buttons, triggers and layers... oh my!

Jul 16, 2012

Hope I'm putting this in the right place. This is my first course-building attempt with Storyline and I have viewed the tutorials but have not had the chance to attend one of the classes yet (Denver needs you!)

I need to display some technical terms and definitions, and thought I'd do it like this. A list of the terms on the left side of the screen, click on them and the definition displays in a text box on the right.

My thought is to use radio buttons alongside each term, when clicked display a layer with a text box with the right definition.

Is this the best way to do it? Thoughts/advice?

Hi Sarah,

This is A way to do it because with Storyline, there are so many ways to do the same thing...

Thoughts/advice : Since there is a few steps for each term to accomplish what you need (insert the radio button, create the layer and its components related to the radio button, add triggers to the radio button, add triggers to the layer to hide it when viewed, etc.), my recommendation is that you create a first one with all the steps, make sure it works fine and duplicate... that way, eveything will be in place for you and you will only need to make adjustments. To make, this is a time saver.

Hope it helps and keep us posted on your success!

Another way to do this would be with Marker icons next to the terms. The user could mouse over the icon for a brief definition, then also click for an extended definition. I think it would just depend on what you want or need.

You could also just load the terms and definitions in the Glossary in the player.
