Can a text entry question treat "blank" as correct?

Jul 06, 2015

I am trying to simulate a process where in one step the user has to select the existing date in a field and press Delete to remove it, then press Enter and proceed. I preload the text entry variable with the date 06/30/2015.

However, in the Form View of the question, when I try to specify the first Acceptable Answer as the empty string, Storyline just deletes that Acceptable Answer line and, in effect, my question has no Acceptable Answers at all.  I tried "(blank)", which I have seen in the variable list sometimes as a string initial value, but that doesn't work either. How can I make the single correct text answer in this question equal to the empty string?

Hi Eric,

I don't believe you can use a "blank" set up within a fill in the blank question, but you could set that as a trigger within a standalone text entry. Possibly could you set up it up as two separate slides - so that the "delete" key press pushes you to the next slide and counts as correct? Maybe you could share a bit more information or you're example so that the community could offer other design ideas.
