Can I create a sum of variables as a result or another variable?

I am creating an assessment that includes Likert-style questions. I created drop-down questions and assigned a variable to each question. I want to create a result that is the sum of the variables so that the assessment can be included in score for the course as a whole. How can this be accomplished? I am attaching a slide so you can see what I have done so far.
