Can I make only part of an image be the trigger for a drag interaction?
Aug 18, 2016
Hi All,
I was wondering if you would be able to help me with this one! I'm trying to create an interaction of a hand pointing to various apps on a phone. I would like it so a layer appears with information about the app when the finger on the hand points to the app. At the moment I can only get the layer to show when the whole hand hovers over an app, but as the hand is big it covers all the apps and therefore won't work properly. I tried to create a circle shape around the finger of the hand and group this with the hand image and make the circle the trigger, but then it won't drag with the hand when I try to drag the image so only the circle drags and the hand stays where it is! Does anyone have any ideas on how I can keep only the finger as the interactive element but also drag the hand over with it?!
Many thanks! :-)

Instead of using the image add a transparent shape in the area you want.
Hi Phil,
Thanks. This is what I did with the circle around the finger, but when I grouped that with the hand and then created an interaction to show the layer when the circle shape hovers over the app, it won't let me drag the hand with the circle shape around the finger. I want to be able to drag the hand with the circle shape, but only have the circle shape on the finger being the trigger. Does that make sense?
Thanks.
instead of grouping it try adding the hand inside of the state of the circle, it may not have any affect but also may mean that only the circle is the draggable area but is the only solution I can think of.
Thanks Phil, I think this works to an extent, but I can't tell if it's to do with the circle aspect or just the way the hand is dragged as sometimes it's right and sometimes not. Thanks for trying anyway. If anyone else has any ideas I'd be really grateful :-)
Hey Louise! That's a great idea...and a tough one. I'd say to take a look at the Building Better Courses forum as well to see if you can spot any ideas, or even state your question there as well.
Also, here is a similar discussion... maybe Steve's workaround will be a jumping off point for you.
