Can I rename result variables?

When I insert a new results slide, Storyline creates a set of variables to track those results, with names like Results.PassPercent, Results.PassPoints, Results.ScorePercent, and Results.ScorePoints. Each results slide generates another set of variables, and after a while, they all start to run together.
The Variable window doesn't want me to rename these, but it seems I can double-click name entries in the Variables list view and rename them something more meaningful like q1.PassPercent, etc. I'm curious whether thought, is that going to break the functionality of my results slide or mess up my activity? It doesn't seem to hurt anything as far as I can tell, but I just wanted to check. Thanks!

The only I have done it, it has broken the functionality but i did find bugs and cannot remember if it was the bugs or not
I suppose the quick way to test is add score variables onto your result slide via the form, rename the variables and then remove and add the variables back in via the form and see if it brings the renamed one back in
yes it seems to work, but the references do not get updated automatically, you have to do as I said and go into the form remove the scores and then recheck them
whereas normal references do update themselves sometimes but not all the time
