'Long' is always relative and it partly depends on how complex your slides are (e.g. lots of audio, video, etc.). I have recently completed a course that had close to 300 slides with 50+ videos and the client didn't report any technical or performance issues.
Beyond opening, saving, previewing, publishing (which took some time), I didn't have any problems. I use a PC, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Premium 64Bit, nothing out of the ordinary...
I would have thought that any issues with courses that long would be at the other end - can the LMS/platform handle deployment, and can the learners deal with courses that are that long?
The only LMS issue that was caused by the sheer size of the course was that the default upload limit (2MB in my client's case) had to be increased. I agree that a LINEAR course with 300 screens (or one that requires learners to view each screen in any order) would be very lengthy and 'hard to digest'. In my case though, the course included complex branching based on learner selections, a sizeable reference section and other optional content.

Did you have issues during development with such a large course?
Thank you for your response!

Should cause no issues at all.

Adding on to Bruce's point.
1. Could the learner actually process the amount of material in a course that long?
2. Would they get bored and 'switch off' halfway through?
3. How do you make sure it doesn't become an 'information dump'?
