Can't edit triggered audio.

Jul 18, 2019

Hi,

after update to 3.29.19305.0 I can't edit triggered audio.

When I click that audio, "File not found" error appears.

Audio error

After that, empty "Audio Editor" appears and there is no possibility to do anything. You can't close this window, the only way is to close the program using "Windows Task Manager".

Audio editor

Tested on several projects. Not triggered audio works fine.

I'm sorry you're running into that, Radosław. Happy to help investigate!

I'm having trouble recreating this behavior on a test file using the latest version of Storyline 360, so I'll need your help:

  • What type of audio are you inserting? What's the file type?
  • If this is happening on several projects, could you try these repair steps?
  • If you still experience this after going through those, would you mind sharing a troublesome .story file for testing? You can send it to our team by privately by using this upload link. We'll dig in to see what could be causing this, and will delete the file after troubleshooting!

Hey Radoslaw,

Thank you for sharing that file! I reviewed the course as well and ran into the same error message. When I applied the workaround provided by ankita (thank you for sharing!), I was able to open the file afterward and hear the proper audio.

Since this is odd behavior, I will go ahead and provide this information for our Support Engineers. I will be sure to follow along so I can provide any updates to this thread!

I am having that same issue.  I'm using text to voice - that's where it happens.  I do import a dummy. Then I close out without saving the file.  Now, I'll have to make sure I copy the text I want recorded, import the dummy, paste the text and delete the dummy to get around this issue.  NOT GOOD. Can support fix this?  Thanks.

Good morning, Norma!

The nature of this error has been a tough one for us to identify. What version of Storyline 360 are you using? Also, would you be willing to work with our Support team so we can pull system logs to help us get to the bottom of what may be happening?

I'm sorry you hit this uncanny issue, but hopefully we can offer some help!

Hi Erin!

Thank you for sharing what worked for your file!

Would you mind sharing more information on when you've seen this error pop up?

Here are a few troubleshooting questions to get us started:

  • Which version of Storyline are you using?
  • Is this happening in every file or just this certain file?
  • Are you saving to a Network or Shared Drive?  We've found corruption issues are likely to happen if projects aren't saved to a local drive, or C: drive.

From here we can determine if this is a bug and report it to our team.

I appreciate you taking the time to update this discussion, Erin!

Hi Lauren,

  • I'm using SL360 - v3.40.22208.0
  • I haven't tried in another file, and I'm not sure how to recreate the issue since it doesn't happen every time. (I would try and recreate it, but I'm in the middle of a big project and don't have time to troubleshoot. If I remember to though and can recreate the steps, I'll post it.)
  • I am not using a network or shared drive; although, maybe it is considered a shared drive since I'm on a virtual machine..?

I doubt any of this is helpful.. hahah

Happy to answer any other questions though.

Hello,

I am having the same issue using  SL360 - v3.40.22208.0. I used the workaround and the file loaded. However, when I save it, Storyline is replacing it with audio from a different slide. Very unusual behavior. this only started occuring ince I update my SL360 to this version. Also, when I click to Preview the slide, no audio is playing. Can someone take a look at my file?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi all,

I wanted to revive this thread as I'm having the same issues described above, plus additional issues with triggered audio since the most recent update. When I open a file with an audio component that is triggered to play on a slide, a pop up says "File cannot be found". The workaround proposed above is also working for me to fix the issue - but annoying to have to do every time I open my file.

In addition to the issue above, I also am unable to play triggered audio when in slide editing mode so I can line up image timings, etc. with my audio. Instead, it only plays on the slide in preview mode.

Here are the answers to the troubleshooting questions above - but I'm happy to submit a file, contact Support, etc. to get this resolved. It's really slowing down my work flow!:

  • Which version of Storyline are you using? I am on 3.33.20625.0
  • Is this happening in every file or just this certain file? Every file I've opened that with audio that is triggered to play on a slide. It's not happening with audio that plays with no trigger.
  • Are you saving to a Network or Shared Drive? We've found corruption issues are likely to happen if projects aren't saved to a local drive, or C: drive. No, these files are all saved locally.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for contacting us and sharing what you are experiencing.

You mention that you have additional issues with triggered audio since the most recent update and list 3.33.20625.0 as your version.

We are currently on Build 3.41.22450.0 of Storyline 360. You can read all of the details here.

I'm curious if you're experiencing this issue in the latest update and if so, I would recommend allowing us to dig in a bit more. I took a look at the cases above and the issues were related to their installation, and upgrading to the latest version will also repair your install. If you're still having difficulty, you can contact a support engineer directly here.

I'm also experiencing this issue. When I click the audio element from the timeline, I receive this error notification.

It is a speech-to-text audio file. When I publish to the LMS; however, the audio plays normally.

I attached a video demonstration of what I have to do when clicking on the text-to-speech audio in the Storyline timeline.

Current Storyline 360 Build: 3.41.22509.0

Hi Cody!

Sorry, this is affecting your project!

After looking at a few similar cases, I can see that our Support Engineers had a custom approach with each. I'd love for our team to troubleshoot this with you! Would you mind sharing your .story file with our team? We'll let you know when we receive the file and contact you shortly after! Click this link to connect with our Support Team.

I am having exactly same issue! This started happening after the last update.

I found that almost 90% of the  triggered audio files are affected.

Here is my work around:

After pressing OK on the error window - it will show a blank edit window that you can't close.

  1. Start recording from the mic.
  2. Record about 1-2 second clip - it can be just dead air.
  3. Press Save. New wave will appear.
  4. Now click the X button (NOT Save and Close).
  5. It will ask you "Do you want to save changes?" Click "No".
  6. Do a happy dance.

Done. Your old file now works and it will edit normally.

It's a pain to do that for a big project, but the saving grace - the file with play NORMAL in the preview, even if in the edit it will be a problem (at least it does for me).

Edit: 15-Sep-2020

Note: this solution only works if you haven't gotten error yet (meaning you know there is a problematic file and you just don't want to go through the hassle of fixing it with workaround above)

After more tinkering I found that if you press play button in the edit mode on the timeline window - it will play the timeline (there will be no sound, of course). As soon as it starts playing - you can pause it.

Now you can click to edit.

Hi there, Ann.

I'm sorry to hear this error struck again!

We haven't had luck recreating it on our end, but we won't give up. What version of Storyline 360 are you using?
