Can't insert/link to a pdf

Jan 15, 2014

Here's what I've been doing:

- Making text into a hyperlink using the action 'Jump to url/file'

- Same as hyperlink, but using a button with a trigger to 'Jump to url/file'

I even just tried a simple link to google.  When I test the link, it works fine.  When I publish the storyline file to the Web and try the link.....nothing.  I click on it and nothing happens.

I'm at a loss for why the link won't work.  Any ideas?

Thanks.  I've attached the file as well.

There is nothing wrong with your file or the link. You just have to upload it to a server (or adjust your Flash player security settings to list your published output folder as a "Trusted Location", so that you can run content locally, without links being blocked). Here is you (unchanged) file, running of my server: http://dev.keypointlearn.com/xcl71_SL/Link/story.html

Thanks so much for all your help Michael.  I was able to adjust the Flash player settings and when I test the dropbox link in storyline it works fine, but when published still no luck.  I'm thinking it might have something to do with security settings on my computer or perhaps my company's local network.  I've attached the file again with the dropbox link if you wouldn't mind testing to see if it works for you.

Very much appreciated.

Hi Andrew,

I also don't see a new link or file associated with your most recent post. I also use the sites below to test out web content:

  • Tempshare: This is a free service provided by Articulate for testing Storyline content. Note: Uploaded files will be deleted after 10 days.
  • Amazon S3: Amazon S3 offers free hosting with generous usage limits. If you go over your limit, you'll be charged a graduated fee.
  • Google Drive: Change the story.html file to index.html, and set the sharing permissions to PublicHere's how.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for sharing your .story file. I published it and uploaded to Tempshare and everything works as expected. Please test this out on your end as well. Links and web objects will need to be viewed during publish within the intended environment otherwise, local security restrictions in your computer, browser, and Flash Player will cause various features to fail.
