Can't open Story line
Nov 03, 2014
Help!! I haven't used story line for a while BUT need to and it won't open. It is saying...
! (in triangle) Flash player 10 or higher for internet explorer is required to run articulate storyline. Would you like to go to a web page to download it now?
I'm using Chrome which says....
Your Google Chrome browser already includes Adobe® Flash® Player built-in. Google Chrome will automatically update when new versions of Flash Player are available.
Download the Adobe® Flash® Player system plug-in or view the instructions to enable it.
To learn more about the enhanced support for Flash Player in Chrome, including information for developers, see this TechNote.
Do you have a different operating system or browser?
Are you an IT manager or OEM?
Help - I really need to get on - the help desk have suggested uninstalling story line and then suggested doing the same adobe and re-installing - which I've done BUT still saying same message.

It needs flash player installed in IE to work as it uses IE to run preview
Thank you Phil for helping - forgive me if simple, I'm no computer expert! Do I need to get rid of Chrome? I have flash player 5 plug in - showing on my programs and features and Chrome saying Flash is in it, Help desk suggested uninstalling and re-installing but its still not working.
Hi Caroline,
You don't need to get rid of Chrome, as for example it's my default browser. But to run Storyline you'll need Flash player 10.3 for SL2 or Flash 10 or later for SL1 and you'll want to check that is the version IE is referring to. You could use a site such as Supportdetails.com while in your IE browser to see which version is installed.
As, was your Help desk referring to uninstalling/reinstalling Flash or Storyline? I would definitely follow their recommendation for Flash, and for Storyline you'll generally want to follow the repair steps here or here for SL2.
I've managed to uninstall on IE I just need to re-install (saying my security won't let it back) - it like having teeth pulled!!
Hi Caroline,
Sorry to hear you've had difficulty - you may want to reach out again to your help desk team, as the reinstall of Flash or other programs may need admin privileges depending on your set up and security settings.
I work for myself Ashley - I'm a professional trainer turned online course write, so my tech skills are limited (though improving). I am trying to work with help desk, who are being very kind, just thought it was worth asking on here in case it was very simple and someone had the answer.
Thank you all

Doing a happy dance - fixed!!
Ah, so no actual IT person you can call. I understand as I'm often the IT support for my mom. Even while she's at work. :-)
I'm happy to hear you were able to fix it - and if it's a fix you think would benefit other users who are like you, please feel free to share here!
Can someone post the solution to this? I'm having the same problem.:
Everything worked fine till today. I'm using WS 8.1, IE 11 with flash activated and working (on adobe test page).
Hi Andrei,
I'm sorry to hear you've run into this issue - with the update to Flash player 16 its causing issues with Storyline and other Articulate products opening. You can see additional information about that issue here and please know our team is hard at work on a fix.
This same thing has been a disaster for me today. Why do these things always happen when there's a deadline? Please post the fix as soon as it is known!

Hi V,
You can open Storyline if you uninstall Flash Player 16 then install Flash Player 15 instead.
We'll keep you posted here as our team has additional information to share.
I am using Flash Player 15 and am experiencing the same problem.
Hi Steven,
This thread is getting a bit murky as a few people posted in here regarding the recent release of a Flash update 16 - which wasn't released till this week, so I'm unsure what cause Caroline's original issue. Have you confirmed that Flash 16 did not get installed as a part of the Windows update? For example, the Flash version that is on your computer may be different than that which is used in your browser. In the meantime, you may want to follow those steps I linked to above or look at conducting the repair of Storyline.
Hi Ashley,
I very much appreciate your quick reply.
Support resolved the issue for me.
I am able to forge ahead with my work thanks to you and your team.
Best,
Thanks Steven for the update!
Hi all,
Articulate Storyline 2 Update 3 is now available for download. It adds support for Adobe Flash Player 16 which a few of you ran into issues with today. Click here for details:
i also had lots of support but at the time that didn't help but glad to say i managed to do it myself - happy days
Hi Caroline,
Update 3 should fix the issue if you're using Storyline 2. Our team is still working on the fix for Storyline 1, but we'll post here once it's available.
Thank you!!! Just ran into this. Uggers.
Hi! I am having the same issues today with Storyline 1. Can someone please help?
Hi Folks,
My storyline 1 and storyline 2 are not working. I am at flash version 15.0.0.239. Not sure why it is not working. I am going to install the patch for Storyline 2, but that is a trial version. I really need to get Storyline 1 back up and runnning. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks!
I am having the same issue. I don't use Internet Explorer, although I am guessing it's still installed on my machine. When I try to open Storyline 2, I get an error message saying, "Flash player 10 or higher for Internet Explorer is required to run Articulate Stoyline." My default browser is Chrome. Please help, someone!
Same exact problem. Literally used it an hour or two ago. Closed it, tried to reopen, and am getting the same error message even when I bypass the Chrome and IE "we automatically update Flash" messages and manually download version 16.
