Can't Preview or Publish a Story

Sep 27, 2013

Hi,

I have been able to preview and publish this story before but I added a quiz screen and when I went to preview, the progress bar gets stuck at 26 out of 26.  When I publish I don't get a HTML file only the story files. I then removed the quiz screen thinking it was the problem, but I still can't get it to preview or publish.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sharon,

Is this happening in just this one particular .story file or all your Storyline files? If it's just the one file, you may want to import it into a new Storyline file as it may have been corrupted. If it's all your files, you'll want to conduct a repair of the Storyline software.

You'll also want tocheck the following things while working on new projects to prevent futurecorruption:

  • Workon your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drivecan cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and otherunexpected behavior.
  • Youshould also make sure the directory path to your project files and yourpublished output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoidusing special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried to import my story into a new file. I've done it three times. If I don't save the file, I can publish and preview it but the minute I save it, I lose the ability to publish or preview it. Does that sound like anything specific? I'll also try to repair the Storyline software and see if that helps.

Thanks!

Sharon

Hi Sharon,

We've seen issues like you describe when the player contains an invalid logo image.  If you can please share one or two of your .story project files with us, we should be able to confirm whether or not this is the case.  If this is the root cause, we may have a work-around for you, but we need to confirm it by taking a look at your files first.

Thanks!
