Can't Preview or use Timeline

Dec 30, 2015

Hi Folks.

I’m a newbie to Storyline 2. I’ve created several classes with it and love it but I’ve run into an issue. I was having issues with a video I recorded. It filled up about 2/3 of the screen but left a huge space on the top and bottom of the viewing area. I tried making adjustments to the Story Size and the previewer stopped working. After several attempts, I rebooted and tried to once again preview the class to no avail. I then tried another project and then another and none of them could be viewed in the preview mode. Finally, I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it as an administrator and I still cannot preview any work I have done. Also, the timeline will not play in any class I have made. I’m at a loss. Can someone offer assistance please? Thank you.

Thank you Wendy.

My original issue with the video size seems dismal when compared to this flash issue. However, the workaround did it and I can now preview and work with the timeline.  I’ll continue to read in the forum about the other issue and post a question should I need assistance. Thanks again and good luck with Adobe.

How did you go with the video issue?  I think you're on the right track with 'Design - Story Size'.  i.e. you will need to 're-shape' the canvas rather than the video I think.  Let me know how you go... sound like something I could come across too.

I tend to use lightboxes for odd sized objects where I can't change the Story Size.

I've attached a source file example for you, and you can see the published version at:

No problem Phillip. I’m so glad I could help. Thank you Tim for posting your lightbox example. I’m new at this so let me share with you what I was doing and why I chose to go the route I did. Please offer advice for a better way in order to get better results as I’m still not pleased with the finished product. I recorded a step-by-step tutorial in Storyline in order to add text boxes with descriptions for several steps. Because the recorded film was so small on the slide, I added zoom regions to each slide in order to increase the legibility. I also moved the menu to the top of the slide increasing the view area further. The lightbox would work on a single slide recording but I’m not sure about multiple slides where the user interacts with a series of hotspots and buttons.  So I still did not find an actual fix to the size of the film and adjusting the Story Size only distorted the finished product. I hope that explains it correctly. Thanks.

Hi Ray! Thank you for sharing the link to assist Phillip out here, looks like he appreciated it as well as others that may run across this thread I'm sure.

It looks like Tim is assisting you with your video issue, but I just wanted to pop in and mention that it may be helpful if you can share your .story file so that we can understand what you are working with and perhaps how to assist. We have a really great and creative community that impress me daily :)

You are welcome to utilize the 'Add Attachment' feature in your reply and it will attach to your response as Tim's did above.
