Can't seem to be able to insert a "*.flv" video

Jan 16, 2014

The instructions say that the system natively supports .flv files but I still can't get it to recognize my file and accept it. Anyone else out there have this and work around it?

Hi Jeffrey and welcome to Heroes!

You should be able to insert a flv file as described here. When you mention "recognize and accept it" I'm not sure what you mean by that? Do you get an error message or just the video file never appears?

There may be times when you're unable to import an FLV movie file from a third-party source, such as Adobe Connect. You'll see this error message:

"FileName.flv" does not appear to be a supported video format. Please select a video from one of the supported formats.

FLV is a supported format, but you'll see the error above if your Articulate software is unable to determine the duration of the video. To correct it, just change the file extension from FLV to either AVI or MOV. Then import it into your Articulate project.

I'm having the same problem with .flv files.  I've watched the tutorials and know that I'm importing the way it says to perform the action.  It recognizes my file on the import, but then after about 30 seconds, I get a message "filename does not appear to be a recognized file format.  Please select a video from one of the selected formats."

I even tried it as a flash file, but that didn't work either.  I'd rather not have to convert this with a different tool into MP4.  I got Storyline because it's supposed to natively handle FLV.

Jeffery - did you ever figure this out?  Anyone have a solution here?  Do I have a setting wrong somewhere?

Thanks!

I feel a little silly.  This is a known issue.  The fix was really easy - just rename the file to .mov.  I am using Storyline 2 and this was recorded in Adobe Connect.  So, for whatever reason, the FLV file won't import unless you rename it to MOV.  I just tried it and it works like a champ.
