Can triggers and variables move a slider?

Yes set the slider to track your score variable, you may want to put a hotspot over the slider so the user cannot move it manually.

Thanks  Phil. Got it working by switching the slider variable which is what you meant by changing the variable the slider tracks? So simple thank you again.

I haven't seen an example of this to point you to, but I did want to share a link to the Storyline 360 user guide on working with sliders. If you've got something set up, you're welcome to share that here for others in the community to take a look and offer some edits on your file directly! 

If you want to use a slider as a "progress bar"

1. put the slider on the master slide
2. set the steps to the number of slides in the course
3. set a trigger on the master slide to set the auto-generated slider variable (Slider, Slider1) to equal the built-in variable menu.slidenumber (for example or project slidenumber or scene.slidenumber) when the timeline starts on the slide
4. put a 1% white box over the slider so the user can move the slider
