Can you edit slide frames/images from screen recordings?

Aug 28, 2012

My 30 day trial of Articulate Storyline ran out before I managed to find out if it was or was not possible to manipulate a slide or frame from a screenrecording after it has been recorded. I am used to making minute changes or PhotoShopping Captivate slides, which is especially good when you are doing system recordings and some unwanted elements appear.

My recordings was imported to my Storyline project as single still slides with some animation strips for several, but not all. I realize that manipulating actual footage is hard to do, but the many still images I would suppose could be edited. But I never found out how!

I managed to get as far as exporting frames from a recorded movie, then editing the png in PhotoShop. However, I never found a clever way to get it back in. It seems that what ever is recorded is what is recorded, and if I want a different looking image, I have to re-record the slide - which is very hard to get just pixel perfect right in some situations.

Am I missing it? Or is the option not there?

Hi Brian,

From what I can read, it doesn't. Im not able to try it in Storyline. But the article seems to indirectly answer my question: No, you can't modify the slides when in single frame mode. You can shift the start and end frame, but if you want to modify the image, you  are out of luck. You are limited to putting stuff in front of it to block out unwanted elements, for instance.

It seems that the approach to screen capturing here is similar to Camtasia: Film the entire lot, then chop it up in meaning full segments (or slides). But it is still a contiguous movie beneath all, right? I am used to Captivates "split it up in still images with simulated mouse movements" on top.

Result is much more elegant in Storyline, I'd admit. But to modify screenshots, its a complete re-recording of the offending section.

Thanks for your help.
