Can you move CC controls in Storyline?

Jan 31, 2019

Hello everyone!

I have a couple of lightbox slides that play videos in my course. On most of these, the CC control (the button you click to display CC) is on the bottom left of the player (this is where it should be).

However, in three instances that button has moved to the bottom right.

Is there any way to move the buttons that are appearing on the right to the left so that they are all consistent?

Thank you!

Hi Kay,

When you lightbox a slide, the Closed Caption button should still appear in the bottom left corner and that's what I'm seeing on my tests. You can toggle it on/off there as well and that will also control the setting for once the lightbox is closed.

It sounds like you've run into something unusual with the Closed Captions button, so with your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here.

I’ll delete it when I’m done troubleshooting.

Thanks, Kay for letting us test your file as it helped identify a possible bug!

I wanted to share the update here as well for anyone else who comes across the discussion, that when using the Classic player and lightboxing multiple slides from one slide we're seeing the CC button occasionally shift to the right instead of the left default. We've reported this to our team, and in the meantime, you can also look at using the Modern player where the issue doesn't occur.

Hi!  I've just encountered the same issue in the Modern player after applying the latest update.  In my case, both the volume and the CC buttons have moved to the right side:Screenshot of player controls

This screenshot is taken from my Player Properties window.  So, it's appearing like this for all slides.

I'm using Storyline 360, v3.48.24159.0.

I'd really like to be able to fix this, as one of my standard slides specifically refers to the position of the volume and CC controls.

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for reaching out! This change was included in Storyline 360 Update 47, where player controls were improved to follow a more intuitive navigation order that's similar to popular video-streaming sites.

If you need to restore the original setup, you may consider reverting to an older version of Storyline until you can edit the instructional slide!
