Can you remove individual frames from a screecast

Oct 18, 2019

I've created a screencast with a text entry window.  There's a spelling error in the text that I corrected during the recording session.  Can I delete the frames from the recording ( i.e. Action Fine Tuning) or do I need to redo the text entry?  My search has turned up no help but I may be asking the wrong question.

Hi Cliff,

If you open your screencast in Articulate Replay you should be able to remove the section you are after by first selecting it (drag the pointer in the timeline to the start of your selection and then drag the right-hand handle to the end of your selection.

Now you can right click on the pointer and select Cut from the drop-down menu.

Selecting the Cut option will remove the selected portion of video and close the gap in between. Selecting the Delete option will simply remove the selected portion of video, but leave a gap the size of the removed portion.

When you are trying to edit a very small section of video, you can zoom in on the timeline either by using the scroll wheel on your mouse or dragging the zoom slider at the bottom left of the screen. As you can see from my top image, it is possible to remove a portion of as little as 0.07 seconds in length, which should be good enough for most things you want to do.

Ned, thanks for he info.  I didn't record the screen actions using Replay, it was completed using the screen capture feature within Storyline.  The screen recording action is located on the timeline, but I can't locate that specific file on the hard drive so I suspect it's incorporated into the project.  When I try "Action Fine Tuning" I can update the start frame and end frame but not remove a section (Frames 1000 to 1087).  Hope that explains it better.

Thanks for the link.  I know I'm not explaining the problem clearly, so I've attached the slide.

I need to remove the frames that contain  the letter "e" from "oile"  since I misspelled it when I was typing during the screen capture.  In the Fine Action Tuning window it shows as frames 1000 to 1050.  How do I cut those frames from the middle of the capture.  I need the rest as is.  It's a small example of an issue I frequently create for myself since my computer can't spell :-)  I see how I can delete  the frames BEFORE 1000 and AFTER 1050 just not the frames between those two ranges.

Hi Cliff,

One option which may work for you (I don't know if it will affect anything else or alter the video quality at all) is that you can delete the Text-to-Speech and Rounded Rectangle and then publish your slide to video. You can then insert this video into a new project in Replay and edit it accordingly. Then all you need to do is to publish your Replay project as an MP4 video and re-insert it into your original slide in place of your screencast. You can then add back your other components and all should be good.
