Cannot click base layer for trigger on new layer

Jan 30, 2021

Hi everyone.  I want to right click anywhere on the base layer to jump to a cue point in my new layer.

My new layer only has a couple of small text boxes with audio.

I have unticked everything in slide properties.  I have the base layer image visible in my layer but my trigger to rightclick only lists objects on my new layer, it does not include the graphic in my base layer so I just see "unassigned".

I even just inserted a blank layer immediately above the base layer and tried to setup a trigger just to jump to the next slide if user clicks on object.  But as there are no objects on my bare test layer and it will not let me click on the base layer, the object in this test is "unassigned".

The only solution I can come up with is to not use layers and instead create a new slide with the base graphic and text boxes on the base layer and given the size of my module, to do this for every layer is going to be very expensive in space.

Any ideas on what is going on.

Hi Walt. No, I have not blocked clicking on the base layer or hidden the base layer graphic I want to click on.

Select option 2 of the attached sample to experience the triggers to jump through the audio on the first screen, using right click on the base graphic then the problem appears on the layer where I cannot jump through the audio even if I rclick outside of the graphics and text laid down in this layer.

You will be saving me a heck of a lot of time if you can help me with this.

The triggers for an object are stored where the object resides, so try your triggers from the base, not the layer. You can copy them from the layer and paste them on the base. When they are on the base, you can select the object to be right-clicked. You will have to identify that the cue points are on the layer.

This means that I need to count all the cue points in all the layers to put them into the base object triggers, then trigger to a cue point on the layers with a cue point counter that is set to a number not equal to the cue point number in the layer.

eg base has cue points 1 and 2, layer has cue points 1,2 and 3.  So on base I need to trigger layer jumps with jump to cue point 2 on layer if variable cue point =4.  This is very messy when I have lots of layers building up with sometimes 5 or 6 cue points each.

I thought the option to allow clicking on base objects was to allow a click on base object to trigger something on a layer. Bit disappointing.

But in saying all that, thank you very much for your very fast support, you did supply a solution. Now I just need to consider which is the lesser of two evils, my work around or this huge base layer cue point counter/trigger.
