Cannot open project file

Dec 24, 2015

Hi,

First, I could not open a Storyline file which was created by our US team for localization with error message:

This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened. It may have been created in an earlier version of Storyline.

Then, I trie troubleshooting mentioned in https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/this-project-is-invalid-or-corrupt and https://community.articulate.com/articles/importing-from-another-storyline-project

But, I could not open with other error:

Could not open project

The file "c:¥Users¥myamagishi¥Desktop¥(filename).story" is being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource.

I also tried the same way with putting the file in c:¥ directly.

One thing would be different from you is that I use VMware fusion on Mac + Windows 7, and my account is a sort of user account, not all the same as Administrator neither Mac nor Windows. I don't know this is related my issue or not.

And, I also using Windows 7 Japanese version.

Does anyone know how to solve that?

Thanks,

Mieno

Hi Mieno,

Thanks for reaching out here and I'm sorry to hear of the issue you encountered. A couple things I wanted to check - you shared the file name/path - did it include the special character of ¥ ? That may be a part of the issue - as we recommend not including special characters, accents or symbols in the file names or path.

Also, you mentioned working on a Mac and the user account, and you'll want to make sure you're following the guidelines here especially in regards to working solely in the Windows environment of the Mac.

Lastly, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer:

%appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
