OK - didn't realise that it needed a new licence .
I now have a bigger problem - I am trying to open a course that I had published out to my Subject Matter Experts in November, and I now want to make the changes.
When I try to open the file, I am getting an error message 'This project cannot be opened - it may have been created in a newer version of Storyline'
We have not upgraded to the new version, and I would not have built anything in the newer version so am a bit concerned, the problem may be that I downloaded a template, but surely both versions should be compatible ?
Someone suggested that I try and open it in SL2, hence the download, but there is a new error message coming up
Welcome any help/solutions you can suggest before I start to rebuild the whole thing :(

I am experiencing the original issue, however, I am using the AS2 activation number for AS2 installed on a new machine, not transitioning from AS1 to AS2. Why won't it let me activate?
If you're still having problems activating, you'll want to follow all those steps that Leslie mentioned, the end of which if it still doesn't work will connect you with our Support team and they'll be able to assist specifically on your issue.

No worries... when you purchased SL2, you should have received an email with your new Serial Number.

projects built in SL1 when opened in SL2 will
1. have a backup made of the SL1 file, and
2. be converted to a SL2 file.
projects built in SL2 cannot be opened in SL1.
Look for something like this - you should be able to find the SL1 Backup.story file if you opened it in SL2.

Here's how to activate Articulate Storyline with your serial number.

There is a process for manual activation if the automatic activation is not working for you if you scroll down in that documentation.
