(Card) Sorting activity with feedback..

May 27, 2020

Hi.

I'm trying to create a (Card) Sorting Activity in Storyline like the one i Rise, but with individual feedback on drop.

The feedback part seems to be working, but I'm struggling with getting the cards to return when placed on the wrong target.

I've tried both the options under "Retur items to start point if dropped outside" with no effect.

Also I've tried adding a Motion Path and a trigger to move the cards back, if dropped on the wrong target. This seems to be working, but the cards are acting weird, getting stuck offset, when dropped.

This odd behavior seems to start when the Timeline ends (at playback), and instant, when implementing into Rise.

Does anyone have a working example of a similar function or an idea on how to solve the problem with the cards not returning?

(Example-file attached).

Thanks, Ninna

UPDATE:

With help from Articulate Support, the function is now working as intended - Thanks! =)

The explanation is, that the "Retur items to start point if dropped outside" only works with feedback by question (not by choice) in this question type.

The solution is to use Motion Paths, but the triggers need to be on the Feedback layers and not on the Base layer.

Attached is a new story-file that should be working. I've also added a slide where the feedback only shows on incorrect answers. As an addition to this, I might enhanced the function with triggers showing a check mark (or state change) when the answer is correct, similar to the function in Rise.

I created one where if you get any of them wrong, you get feedback giving the learner an opportunity to try again. When they click the Try Again button, all the items go back to their original positions. I'm not sure if that accomplishes what you're looking for, but in case someone wants to know how I did it, it's pretty simple. I explain it here in my blog along with the example itself so they can see how it responds. https://dansweigert.wordpress.com/2020/12/26/sorting-out-your-cats-and-dogs/

Hello Luka,

Happy to help!

If you want to add a greyed out effect to the correct or incorrect layers, you can simply add a shape that covers the entire area of the feedback layer and adjust its transparency. To adjust the transparency, right click on the shape and select Format Shape -> Fill to adjust the Transparency

I've attached a sample project file so you can so the effect of adding a transparent shape to a feedback layer.
