Change default behaviour for clicking outside of hotspot on "Try Mode" simulations

Aug 01, 2016

Hi Team

I am creating some simulations using the "Try Mode" in Storyline 2, but I don't like the default behaviour of it displaying the "Try Again" layer when the user clicks outside of the hotspot for the "correct" path. I would prefer that the "Hint Caption" layer is displayed instead (feels friendlier), so I am currently having to manually edit the triggers to this layer slide-by-slide. Is there any method of setting top-level defaults for Try Mode scenes so that I can make it display the "Hint Caption" layer by default instead of the "Try Again" layer?

Also interested if there is a method of setting the default for things like how long the Hint Caption is displayed for etc.

Thanks!

Hey Steve... happy Monday.  :)

I understand what you're saying- it sounds like it would be nice for you to do a higher level customization so that you don't have to go in to every slide and make adjustments.  We don't have that capability right now.  But I think you have a good idea about making that feature available, choosing the feedback style of the Try Mode across all the slides.  Would you mind making a feature request with our development team?  It's good for them to hear what's important to you and what would make your job easier.

Thanks, Jeff! Love that you're on Storyline 360 so you'll always be using the latest and greatest! (p.s., we're now on Storyline 360, build 3.30.19518.0 - you may want to check your update number!).

I looked into the feature request that Steve posted, and it's yet to bubble up to the top! We always love to hear more feedback and insight into how this would help with your course design though! Here's a bit more about how we work to prioritize feature requests.

In the meantime, you can find all the details on screen recording in Storyline 360 outlined in the user guide here. Also, I'd recommend taking some time to review this series on "Everything You Need to Know About Creating Software Simulations with Storyline" to jump-start those creative juices.

Let us know how else we can help, or if you create something cool and want to share.
