Change size of matching boxes?

Sep 30, 2014

Is there a way to change the size of the matching boxes (specifically, to change their height)? I have made quizzes in the past where the boxes are narrower, but I don't know how I managed to do it. Thank you.

Hello Alexandra,

It is correct, the box size cannot be modified in the matching question. The only thing you can do is change the size of the full selection box that the questions are sitting in. This will change the size of the matching boxes to scale to fit, but can also add a scrolling bar, and make them a little difficult to see.

Here is information on the freeform option as suggested by Jerson.

Free form works, but is still an "all or nothing" scoring.  When is partial scoring (the most relevant form of scoring) going to be standard rather than something that all of us have to find a work-around for?

As far as the "out of the box" matching... it is useless for any matching over 6 items as they can't fit on the page due to the large "puzzle pieces".  Simply being able to scale the puzzle pieces to fit in the "view window" would make this testing tool MUCH more useable.

Hi Bryon!

We have some options to score by choice as you can see in this tutorial:

By choice: This option lets you assign a different score to each answer choice. It's only available for some question types, including Multiple Choice, Word Bank, Freeform Pick One, and Freeform Hotspot.

You are welcome to share your thoughts with our product development team here.

I understand what you have; it is what you don't have that is the concern.

Matching questions inherently have "multiple" parts to them, which logically means multiple opportunities to score correctly. What you offer is an "all or nothing" score on matching questions. I have been in education for nearly 20 years and have never encountered and educator/trainer that has issued an "all-or-nothing" score for a matching question, particularly one with more than 3 matches (which is typical within industry).

The fact that you offer "some options to score by choice" and that it is "only available for some question types, including Multiple Choice, Word Bank, Freeform Pick One, and Freeform Hotspot" means that your customers currently are left with having to find a work around for something that is commonly used in education/training.

I'm sorry, but watching a tutorial showing me what you do offer doesn't change this fact.... You don't offer a simple solution for a COMMON evaluation method (matching with partial scoring).
