"Change State of..." not an action option in Triggers

Jul 10, 2018

I am new to Storyline. I downloaded the trial version and now have access to the full version. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled.

The issue is that I do not have "Change State of..." as an action for triggers. I have even tried doing it in the provided practice documents and it just isn't even listed in the option. It defaults to "Jump to..."

Anyone else seen this happen or know how to resolve?

As a follow-up. One of the first "advanced techniques" I teach new Storyline developers is to mimic a group by pasting all of the extra components of the group into a state of the main object that the group is built around.

For example, if you are making callout of a textbox and an arrow shape, the grouped items could not take a state. But if you cut the arrow shape, used the Edit State option on the text box,  pasted and arranged the arrow shape into that state, then you could duplicate that state, give it a new name, and a new style that meets your needs. Here's another article: https://community.articulate.com/series/storyline-3/articles/storyline-3-adding-and-editing-states

A note: Cropped images don't always appear as expected (or at all) when added to another object's state.

What I am trying to do is use a slider that when it is set to certain spot that different text will appear. I have created a transparent box as a normal state and then Create New State and added the text to each of those new states.

I then select the slider and try to add a Trigger there...when I do, I don't see anything that allows me to change state. Am I just missing something? From all of the videos I have watched...this should work.

Curtis,

It looks like the Change State trigger is off the top of your screen. It should be the first item on the top, followed by Show Layer and Hide Layer. In your image, it looks like the top two items aren't appearing. I've seen something similar when I've worked in, say, Parallels.

I'd try this:

1. Try moving the trigger box toward the middle/bottom of Storyline and then clicking the dropdown to see if they will appear.
2. If Storyline is maximized, try shrinking it down a bit, and then try adding a trigger.

I hope this helps!

Hi Curtis, I'm new to Storyline -- so this is a super late response. Change State was not showing up as an option for my trial version either as it's off the screen. So I typed in "C" in the Action Box for Trigger Wizard, and got it that way. Depending on the object, might have to type in "C" a couple of times till the option you want appears.
