Changing Audio Files
Mar 04, 2015
Hello
When using Storyline 2, I have been replacing audio files using the 'Change Audio' function under the Options tab. This function allows you to replace an audio file without changing any attached triggers, however, the file name on the timeline stays the same. Is there any way to change the name of the audio file? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi Greg,
I see what you're describing in terms of how when you mouse over the audio file it's showing the file name there - but it's not referenced anywhere else? It does not seem that there is a way to change the audio file name there though unless you're inserting a new audio element. The triggers do update to reference the correct audio file and name though.
Thank you Ashley!
You are correct, the file name only appears when you hover over with the mouse. Everything works fine, it just can get confusing when changing various audio files. Your help is appreciated!
Awesome - happy to hear things are all working on your end ok!
Is there any update to this issue in Storyline 360. Even when I delete the original audio file and insert the new file (instead of using Change Audio), the old file name is what is displayed on the timeline. I would like the new filename to display.
Hi Sally,
Are you using the latest update of Storyline 360 (Storyline 360, build 3.28.18944.0)? If so, you shouldn't be seeing this issue any longer as it was fixed in an earlier update. If you're still running into it, can you take a Peek of the problem?

Thanks!
Here is the Peek recording. The new audio file has the same name, but the original is MP3 and the new file is WAV, yet when I hover over the replaced audio, it still says MP3.

Thanks, Sally!
When you inserted a WAV file previously in Storyline it was converted to an MP3 for storage in Storyline and ultimately upon publish. Update 25 started showing that accurately within the timeline, so anytime you add a WAV file you'll see it noted as the MP3. You can still export as a WAV file from the slide stage if needed! Can you try adjusting to a different file name altogether to confirm this is working for you?
Hope that helps, and please let me know if you have any other questions!
