Changing embedded video code without creating additional work?

Apr 18, 2017

Hi guys, very much enjoying Storyline 3 and publishing everything direct to HTML5 now... but I've encountered an issue which applies to both Storyline 2 and Storyline 3 and is creating a huge amount of work for no discernible reason.

I'm working with hundreds and hundreds of embedded video files hosted through Wistia and using their embedding code within Storyline has worked great.

Unfortunately any time I need to make even the simplest tweak like append "&wmode=transparent" into the embedding code, Storyline:

a) Resets the dimensions of the container and

b) Horribly distorts any poster frame I've allocated

Ultimately this means that for EVERY single alteration to any embed code (even if it's to capitalise a letter within), I'm then stuck:

a) Resizing the container back to the dimensions it should be

b) Moving the container back into the correct location

c) Removing the poster image

d) Adding the poster image back in place

Can you please advise if there's a way around this, or request a fix that edits to embedded code don't arbitrarily reset container shapes etc.

Many thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott.  Thanks for all of the detail.

To check my understanding, when you use the "change embed code" function of an already-embedded video on your slide, and you make any change to the embed code, it is resetting your poster image and video size on the slide.

I did some testing, and I noticed the same.  Even though the poster image was reset, it still asked me to remove the poster frame, and my dimensions shifted slightly from how I had resized them.

I'm going to document this issue for our team to investigate.  It sounds like it is causing a lot of work for you whenever you need to make those edits, so we want to help streamline that process if we can.

I'll post updates in this discussion as we have new information to share.
