Changing the numbers and their hierarchy in Storyline Scenes

Apr 12, 2016

This is not about renumbering scenes. The answers thus far about this and renumbering scenes, is dancing around the answer and not conclusively answering it.

When you create a scene, a number is assigned to the scene name - you cannot assign it a number yourself, Storyline does it for you and as you create another scene the number is incremented, and son on.

If you want to change the number that was automatically assigned when the scene that was created, how do you do it?

You can notice the outcome when you Publish it in MS Word,

Are you are talking about randomly assigning a number, the way you rename a scene? Changing scene 2 to scene 12, for example? I don't think you can do that. SL pretty well keeps the scene numbers in sequential order without any gaps, and about your only option is to swap numbers around by swapping the position of the scenes.

If I don't understand what you are asking for, try clarifying, and I'll try again.

I am looking at a project where the scenes were imported from several stories however the original scene numbers where kept.
When I publish the MS Word version of the story, the Headings are reported in numerical sequence which conflicts with the scene numbers of the story.
For example: in the Story, scene 1 is followed by scene 5 which is followed by scenes 3 and 4 then scene 6.
The WEB publication can be controlled in the menu settings and that it is not a problem.
However, when I Publish in MS Word, the Headings come out 1,2,3,4,5 which is out of the WEB sequence of events.
My problem is really the MS Word publishing which considers the sequential numbers of the scenes and not the trigger order of the scenes.

In that case, I think your best option is to renumber them so the number order matches the trigger order, unless someone else knows more than I and has a better suggestion.
