I am creating a simulation module and I am trying to change the state of a character when the number of "try again" attempts increments. In a nutshell, the more attempts a learner makes in clicking on the correct hotspot...the more frustrated the character becomes. Is this even possible? if so, I am assuming it will need to do this with variables/ if then else statements, but not sure where to start...suggestions?
By the way, is the Attempt Count variable built in or is it a custom variable? I don't see any custom variables in your project, and I can't find Attempt Count in any of the Storyline drop down lists.
When you create a quiz question and the attempt >1 SL creates an automatic variable called Attempt Count. Normally you can see it in the variables list but for some reason you're right it's not displaying. Let me check it out in SL1 - I know it does it otherwise why would the triggers work?
Excellent...as It turned out I had place my character on the master layer...when I moved it to the feedback layer of the slide, it worked fine. Thanks very much!

Hi Paul
see if sample attached helps you
Thanks Wendy...that should do the trick!
Glad to help Paul - don't be too frustrated with the learner lol
Agreed :)

Ah ha - trick question.

Hi Paul
it only shows up when you go to create a trigger - it doesn't appear in the variables list...gosh thought I was going mad for a minute
Hi Wendy,
I still don't see the attempt count variable...are you using Storyline 2 (that's what I have). Please see attached a screenshot
Thanks
You have to create a trigger that uses that variable it won't show up in the variables list.
See attached quick video I did to show you - this is in SL2.

Glad you got it sorted Paul...good luck with your project.
