I want some advice on how I can get a character from storyline to "walk" (just move in a straight line) to another character. I mean there is fade in , grow in, and spin in..... what about a simple walk in... anyone?
Try using the "Fly In" animation and select the speed and direction from which you want the character to enter. It won't show a real walking motion but might achieve enough of an effect.
I'm attaching a file with 3 different approaches to character movement.
Slide 1 uses Dawn's suggestion of a fly in: speed is very slow
Slide 2 uses fade ins, which allow positioning from "current"; I did it very quickly, so you might want to adjust. I't's "jump" which could (or not) better convey walking
Slide 2 was created in PowerPoint using a motion path. It's very smooth, like the fly-in, but you get more control over the speed. I set this one to a duration of 10 (in PPT). I'm sure you could also adjust the motion path to better convey a walking movement.
If you create these in powerpoint, you save as a video and then insert the video into SL.
Loved the PPt option, I wonder how time consuming it could be though. Not a fan of their interface for animations... nothing like Storyline that's for sure.

Luckily now Storyline 2 has motion paths, Yoni - Rebecca is just ahead of the curve with her project. ;-)
