Character moving with triggers

Jul 02, 2014

Hello

I am having a problem with characters moving in preview mode. I am using the method where I create a number of shapes outside the scene and use them for triggers to change the states. With some of the state changes (eg from Normal to Finger by Mouth pose/Worried expression) the character moves slightly to the left.

However, when I go to States and run my mouse over each one, the character stays in position as expected. I have tried copying the original state then modifying as well as creating a new state but the problem remains.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi Shavuan,

If I understand correctly, the character only shifts when previewing, correct? If that's the case, there are a couple of things to try.

First, please make sure that you're working locally with your project:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Please make sure you're running the most recent version of Storyline. Articulate Storyline Update 5 includes bug fixes, performance improvements, and HTML5 output enhancements. Click here for details.

If that doesn't help, it might be a good idea to check your system's DPI settings:

If you still have trouble, I recommend sharing your project's .STORY file here, so we can take a look at what's happening. If the project is over 20 MB, however, you may have some trouble uploading it. If that's the case, or to keep it easier for us to determine which slide contains the character, you may want to import the problem slide into a new project:

Thanks!
