Character poses changing with narration
Oct 09, 2013
I am new to Storyline. I've e-mailed my articulate success coach and no reply.
I need help!!! My question is how do you change the pose of a character so that it moves on its own with narration?...I'm including examples below to show you what I mean, in the demos it shows the characters moving with the narration, that's what I want to do...if anyone knows or can tell me where to look to find help, that would be great...thanks

Hi Olivia - welcome to Heroes!
There is another discussion on this topic which can be viewed here.
Personally, I prefer to use off-screen shapes as suggested in the above thread
Antony
Hi Olivia,
Agree with Antony. And, I just answered your post here regarding a tutorial I'd created a while back that explains how to do what you're asking.
Hi Olivia! Looks like Antony and Becky are taking care of you here, so just let us know if you need anything further.
You guys have been wonderful. My question has been answered and the tutorials were perfect--thanks for the support!!!
Glad to hear it Olivia! Thanks for the update.
While the triggers work to change the expression of the character, they don't seem to change the pose. I tried just adding in more characters with the different poses triggered by offscreen shapes, but sometimes the shape, size and placement of the characters gets out of whack.
Is this feature available? How would I go about using it? Thanks in advance for your help! Attached is my test of changing character poses.
Hello Jeanna!
In your file, the pose was the same in the states for this character. You also had three different character images inserted on the timeline. You can change the pose using the 3 different images on your slide without using the offset images by using your set up and having each picture appear/disappear on the timeline. You can also use the offset images to make the states change. See attached file with 2 ways of achieving this.
Hi Jeanne! I think you simply had some sizing issues on some of the states that made your image look different. Attaching your modified file.
Thank you, Emily and Leslie! Emily - your two examples worked great for me. It seems the easiest way it probably just creating 3 characters set to the 3 different poses and expressions I want and then timing them out. Leslie - I still see sizing/placement issues in your updated version of my test file. I think that method (3 characters and boxes triggered to change expressions) maybe just doesn't work quite right. Either way, I now have a couple of ways for how to accomplish pose channges. Thanks!
Attached is my test of the two solutions offered. The first scene is my first so-so attempt and the 2nd and 3rd scenes are the two suggested methods for chaning character poses. Thanks!
Thanks for the update Jeanne!
Glad this is working for you, and your new slides in the file look great!
Thanks for sharing your solution Jeanne :)
Hello Rebecca Fleisch Cordeiro,
I love your tutorial. I am interested more about how you create those states with the conversation bubbles. Thanks!
Hi Amber,
Rebecca doesn't get back into the forums as often, but I'm not sure where the conversation bubbles you're looking at are to help track it down. Could you share the link or document to help folks here take a look at it and provide ideas around that.
