Characters suddenly showing up only partially

I've been using various states of characters in a storyline course and suddenly whenever I try to add a state or even insert a new one, it's inserting a cropped partial picture. I've messed with all the formatting options (tried even the crop tool and dragging the edges out but that just stretches the image) and tried closing the program and restarting but no luck. What happened? Why is this happening and how do I make it stop?
I've attached a view of the states I tried to create - you'll see the normal state as the original one I put on the slide and it was fine, then suddenly any attempt at adding characters results in the other two - not a full image. Even on a blank slide just putting in a new one, same problem.

Hi Cara,
Are you able to post a copy of your Storyline file here (or at least a copy of one of the offending slides with the different states) as that would be a big help in trying to answer your query?
Here's the slide I'm having the issue with...though it actually then started happening throughout the project. Thanks!
Hi Cara,
This is a strange one and perhaps a bit of a bug. However, I may have found a way that so far has worked 90% of the time for me.
If you select your character, select Edit States and then select the Design tab on the Storyline ribbon at the top of the screen, you will have access to the Character Styles menu options:
Now select the pose you want and it should (hopefully) work. In the case of the Sitting Talking state, I first selected another pose and then went back to the original pose and it inserted it without cropping. I was also able to change the standing figure without any problems.
It doesn't completely solve the problem as I think there is a bit of a bug in the system, but hopefully it will enable you to complete your project without screaming too much . . . . . . don't worry, we've all been there at some stage !!
Check your DPI settings that is main reason for characters to get truncated.
Thanks for that little gem, Phil. That is something I wasn't aware of.
What are DPI settings and where do I access these? Thanks!
Thanks Ned - I was already using that method to add or change states, but I did find that if I duplicated the initial state, then changed it, that seemed to work more consistently, though I have no idea why. I'm going to explore the settings that Phil mentioned below and see if that helps.
Also just found this feed when I searched DPI settings: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/character-cropping-when-i-insert
Going to try the quick repair and see if that helps. Nice to know I'm not alone on this I suppose.
