Checkmark States

I have a multiple choice question with multiple correct answers. I'm trying to create checkmark states for Selected=black marks, Correct=green marks, and the ones that weren't selected that are correct would be red marks. I went into the state for one of the checkmarks and changed the selected state to black. I made a copy of that state and tried to change it to green but it won't do it. It makes it a blank check box. Can this be done or am I doing something wrong?

Maybe it can't be done :(
Hi Tracy,
If you're using the built in MC question, I'd suggest instead to set up your own custom question with the pick many question type as then you could control all the states and ensure that the user is able to pick more than one answer. Please note that there isn't partial scoring though, so it'll be all or nothing that the user has to select.
So for this knowledge I made the page into freeform and added the choices that way. The learner is able to select multiple choices but I'm wanting to change the states of the checkboxes.
If you click on each of the checkboxes and then look at the states tab, you'll see an option to edit. That'll allow you to make the changes there - I'd change one and then duplicate the item multiple times so that they all match. For more information on how to edit states please review this article.
That's what I tried. I took the Selected state which is a black checkmark, made a copy and tried to change the checkmark to green to indicate that it was correct, but it doesn't make the change.
I even made the Selected state green, made a copy, now I have two states with a green checkmark. When I change the Selected back to black, it removes the checkmark from the copy I just made. If you can setup an example, Selected=Black checkmark, Correct=Green checkmark, and incorrect=red checkmark and if you can get it work, I'd love to see an example so I can see what I'm doing wrong. It's so weird that you can't have more than one state with a checkmark.
Hi Tracy,
Could you share an example of what you're working with on this slide? Things dealing with states, triggers, variables are often easier to 'see' what's happening with your file?
Also, are you looking for the "correct" and incorrect" states to appear at the same time as the selected? You can only show one state at a time but those changes could appear on your feedback layers for example.
Yes, here's the knowledge check. I have it setup differently than what I want since I'm not sure it will work.
Right now it's setup for the learner to click which puts a green checkmark in the box saying it's selected. Then when you click submit it will show all the correct answers (still in a green checkmark) and will show an arrow next to the one that was answered incorrectly.
What I want to happen is when the user selects the answers, the checkmark is BLACK. Then after they click submit, any of the answers that are correct that weren't selected will show up in GREEN.
Basically I want the learner to know which ones they've selected, which ones are correct and which ones they answered incorrectly.
Complicated huh? LOL
I tried copying and creating a new state, neither are doing what I need.
Hi Tracy,
Thanks for sharing your file here. I think I understand what you're going for - and I did a quick example for the answer correct 3 - commitment to excellence. It doesn't have the checkmark as noted, although you could add that in - you just can't use the built in checkmark formatting as that's reserved only for the selected state. If the user answers correctly, they'll still see the black check mark - and if they don't select that answer, then on the incorrect layer they'll see the space filled green indicated it was a correct answer.
Thank you so much! So how did you get a filled in check box? I can't seem to get anything different for a correct state. What steps did you do to get that filled in box?
Hi Tracy,
Glad that'll work - if you click to edit the state of your custom created "correct" box, you'll see the formatting options at the top for the check box - change the fill color. Again, you'll only need to do this for the items states on the incorrect layer and I actually like that look as it's very clear what they answered correctly, what they didn't select and then what was wrong.
Thanks so much for helping me with this. I think this will work out great!
Awesome Tracy. Happy to hear it. :-)
The way I've done this in the past is by adding the checkmark or X to the disabled state, then changing all of the choices to disabled once the question is submitted.
