Choosing a story size/user screen size

Nov 15, 2012

Hi all,

I need a little help on making a choice of story size.

Currently Storyline doesn't have a "full screen option", which makes the choice of story size most important at the start of a project. How do you approach selecting a story size? For example, I will have an audience which will have various screen sizes e.g. some with the new wide screens and some still with traditional smaller 4:3 screens.

I have choosen the 720x540 4:3 default option and some users with larger wide screens have complained that the screen is too small and just "sits in the middle of their screen with too much space outside it."

Any tips here on the "best" story size to go with for a range of difference screen sizes?

Finally - I don't quite understand the options in the story size window - "if new size is smaller" etc - anyone got experience of these?

Many thanks,

Fiona

Hi Fiona,

I like to use a wider slide size (12 in. x 7.5 in) for self-training. Since the sizes aren't shown in inches, I guessed (!)

I'm using 800 for width and 450 for height.

The options, I believe, are how you want the slide content to adjust to the wider width.

So if you select a smaller slide size, do you want the content to reduce in size to fit?

If you select a bigger slide size, do the want the content to expand to fit?

Hope this helps,

Judith

Hi Fiona and Judith,

You probably already know this, but just in case:

Have you tried clicking the Player, then the Custom Group, then "other". There's an option to change the Browser settings. The drop-down allows for 3 choices: displaying at current browser, resize browser to optimal size, or resize browser to fill screen.
