Choosing the right tool for interactive marketing and software demos

Jul 12, 2017

I am evaluating Storyline360 vs. Captivate -- but not for elearning course development, for interactive marketing and software demos.

I want to animate software, dramatize software, and provide some interactivity to offer additional info, download a white paper, or jump to a video or web page.

I need my output to run without a player -- just be embedded in a web page. Does Storyline360 allow this?

I need my output to play in mobile as well, but again within a web page without requiring a player app (for marketing, that would kill any chance for mobile viewing). Is that possible with Storyline?

I find it so much easier to build something with Storyline than with Captivate. But I'm very willing to dig in and learn if I end up with a more capable tool.

Any feedback is welcome!

Thanks.

Hi Orson! I can help answer those questions. :)

Let me know if you think of any other questions!

Okay, this is encouraging! Thanks. In comparing Captivate to SL, what I keep hearing from the Captivate folks is it's so much more powerful. But SL is so much easier to use (as of now) and -- I'd say -- more intuitive. I love the UX for SL. I'm not sure I *need* all the power of Captivate.

I also understand that it might be simpler in SL (vs. Captivate) to create a production and then essentially reuse it for another purpose -- replacing media content but retaining the interactions. Any light you can shed would be useful. I expect that one way I can make $$ from my work is to create a template that essentially is applied for multiple clients, each time customized to their product and branding.

Any thoughts or feedback on the reusability angle would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely, Orson! You can create a custom template in Storyline, and use it over and over again. And with Storyline 360, you'll also have access to the Content Library, which is a collection of professionally-designed slide templates and course assets that really speeds up development and impresses your audience.
