Click and Remove Text Box to Reveal Additional Data

Mar 20, 2016

Hi. I am a newbie. I have a slide with some data I want to reveal by the user clicking a Blue Text Box, which then disappears. I have tried various ways with both layers and triggers. I almost got it once, when the Blue Tex Box disappeared, but the (reverse) white lettering remained behind and made what I wanted to reveal look messed up, of course.

What is the simplest way. I do not want to be concerned about a Close Button or anything like that. Help!!!

If you got the text box to disappear, but the letters stayed, you didn't have (just) a text box. It sounds like you had an object and a text box.

Use this trigger to make your text box and its text disappear.  Don't do anything else, like try to create states, or something creative. Every object has a built-in "Hidden" state, and it will work perfectly if it isn't messed up, or having to fight other triggers.

Hi, Walt and thanks so much. I have set up the Trigger just like you said. I did change to a Button instead of a text box, which I had deleted. I have only triggers and no layers, and I have made the states of the objects like this: Normal State first, Hidden State Second. Do you think I need to delete that? Other thoughts? Thanks so much. This newbie appreciates it!

You are so kind, Christie Pollick! I had my triggers set up the way Walt
advised. I was then thinking that maybe I was "duplicating effort" by adding
a Hidden State to the States for that Button. I believe I have to publish to
see if that works, since Preview did not work and told me I could not do
that in Preview.

Let me create a file with just that one slide, since this is client work.
Thanks a million, All. I am determined to make this work, one way or the
other, and your support is helping. - C :)

I feel like I am going in a circle, my shortcoming. The Blue Button needs to disappear when clicked. The Compliance Standards pictures need to just be revealed when the Blue Button is clicked. I tried to do it without layers, thinking I had over complicated things. But, if I do it without layers, the Preview does not show the Blue Button (as it should) when the user first sees the page. Thank you. - Charlotte

Sorry. I updated my original story.

On your story you don't need the layer. Change the trigger on the blue box to this:

I've included the updated version of my story, and a version of your story. Slide one makes the blue box disappear. Slide 2 allows the user to click again and get it back.

I am now resolved with Walt's help. I thought I had it set that way at one
time, but I looked again at my file, the state was invalid, so I am now
good. Thanks a million.

BTW, I did not understand how to use the Edit button to remove my Signature
Info, as you have suggested before. Thanks. - Charlotte

Many thanks for the update, Charlotte, and so glad to hear Walt's suggestion worked for you!

And while it's no problem on our end, I did want to share a reminder that when you reply via email, your phone number, email address, or other details in your signature are visible to the public here in your post.

If you'd care to remove that info, all you need to do is click here to navigate to the thread itself, and use the EDIT button beneath the affected posts. :)

Hi, Charlotte -- Apologies that I did not provide the following steps and photo earlier to help illustrate what you would need to click to remove your signature if you so desired.

First thing, you need to be in the forum post itself so please click on the link below:

Click and Remove Text Box to Reveal Additional Data

Then, once you are over in the thread, beneath your posts, you will see the following options:

Simply click on EDIT, highlight and delete the signature text, and hit UPDATE, and you will be all set! :)
