Clickable shapes on one slide work in preview, not when published.
May 04, 2017
Hi everyone,
Clickable shapes on one of my slides work in preview but not when published. The rest of the slides are fine.
Any thoughts on why that would be the case? It's not a variable true/false issue--I have the "set to false" trigger in place. It seems to have happened out of nowhere, but I first noticed it after I switched the order of two triggers on a layer (1 of 4). I tried that out but couldn't see the result of the switch because the shapes on the base layer weren't working (they show the layers when clicked). I then changed everything back (I hope!), and it still isn't working. Again--just that slide.
I don't think this is a browser issue--I tried Chrome and IE, both aren't working. I also cleared cookies, etc. An LMS issue is the only thing I haven't tested or ruled out--what else can I check?
Thanks in advance for your time--this forum is the best.

Hi Robert
it would be really helpful if you could share the file or even a couple of slides so folks can help you troubleshoot.
Hi Wendy,
Thanks for replying to my desperate cry for help! I just fixed the issue--it seems that the shapes (they are invisible, but brought to the front) were hidden somehow, and the LMS couldn't "see" them. Everything appeared normal in the Storyline file. All I did to fix it was delete the shapes, undo the edit, then republish.
Thanks again,
Rob
Glad to hear that Robert! When using transparent shapes, make sure that they have a border and a fill - otherwise they won't be accessible for clicking on them.
Hi Ashley,
That's interesting--except for the problem I had yesterday these work fine, and they have no border or fill. I think I will change them just to be safe.

Well now I'm extra confused, Rob! Were they hotspot shapes? That's a whole different ball game!
But if it's working, stick with that. And enjoy your weekend! 😀
Squiggles, actually. Do those behave differently than squares, etc?
Hi Rob
doesn't matter about the shape or squiggle - are you using the first object (a shape with solid fill 100% transparency and no outline) or a hotspot?
Hi Wendy,
I'm using a shape with no fill, no line. Not a hotspot--I need to track states.

HI Rob,
A shape with no line and no fill wouldn't be clickable - as there is nothing to click on. Would you be able to share your .story file with us? Even just that one slide so that we could see what you've set up?
Here you go--I would have shared sooner but it's been working ever since I panicked! Now I'm curious what's going on.
I see what you meant by squiggles now - you drew the boxes yourself! Also why they have "no fill" as they're not a standard shape which you could fill. 🙂
I see that they're working for me in Preview too - but I honestly wouldn't expect them too...so that may be a part of the reason? A fluke? I'd look at using standard shapes and setting them to transparent and you can still use states associated with them.
